Give a 12 year old boy a camera and see what happens. When Ryan McCarthy learned how to use his IMac to get creative with video, that’s when a venture was born. Having so much fun making movies about his friends, he was hooked. Ryan’s local Apple store offers classes on using their product and now 5 classes later, he feels fairly proficient.
Getting his friends involved, Ryan loves to come up with story ideas that are interesting and funny. He has a tripod so he’s in his films as well. Leaning some of the cool tricks of the trade – like green screen, reverse video and cloning yourself – Ryan has done more than just your average You Tube video. He can edit, overlay music, and add sound effects and makes a new movie about every two weeks.
And his love of the arts was evident early on. Ryan’s oil pastel, My Ski House, was selected to be a part of a traveling exhibit called Windows: Looking Out and Looking In. His audio/video project with two friends for 6th grade English, called Middle School Survival Guide was chosen and added to the middle school web site – quite an honor.
And speaking of You Tube, with his own channel, MCCBoarder200, now active for 6 months, Ryan has 16 videos with over 4000 views. Could he be the next Spielberg? You never know, but he is having fun and is now charging for his services. With the new age of technology, businesses need live action on their sites and Ryan is offering his filming and editing services at very competitive prices. He’s helping local web site owners create workable tape, burn DVDs, set up YouTube channels, and post on their sites, Ryan is ready to take local web sites into the new age.
