As her husband left with the baby to a neighborhood gathering and she stayed home with a napping child, he didn’t know what to grab for the diaper bag. That’s when Jennifer Roh thought how great it would be to have a prepared box or kit with everything a baby would need for every scenario.
In the information technology field, Jennifer had been concerned with standardizing systems and various scenarios. “I thought, why not standardize kits for different outings with a baby.” Jennifer was all about being organized and prepared.
Realizing nothing like this existed in the baby marketplace, Jennifer began her research and created eight packages that address a different kind of outing with a baby, from beach to travel to the park. She dubbed her kits Diaper Bag Dailies and spent about seven months designing the packaging and getting her web site up and running. “My friend, another mom, was instrumental in translating my vision into logos. Patience Williams-Whang has her own graphic design firm, pfwDesign.” Jennifer’s husband loved the idea and was helpful in setting up the structure of her company and business model.
Sourcing items for the kits from the US was important to her. The Sun and Swim kit is her most popular and contains sunscreen, bug spray, diapers, formula and more. Her basement became her assembly line and Jennifer realizes she will soon need a warehouse as orders grow. “It’s definitely a learning curve but I’m so passionate about my idea that I keep going.” Now she brings in help on assembly days.
Each Diaper Bag Dailies kit gives a caregiver everything they’ll need for an outing. You can customize your kit depending on your baby’s size and preferences. “Moms love to be able to grab a kit and go. They know what’s in it. It makes it so easy to get out the door with a baby.” Using tried and true products, Jennifer did a lot of hands on research with her own kids who are now one and three. And she heard about the best products from her other mom friends.
With plans to scale her business, Diaper Bag Dailies can be ordered on line and can be found in Westport and Southport, CT stores. The kits were even named in the top ten finalists for the Red Tricycle Best Baby Shower Gift. “There’s so much I want to do with the business – it’s easy to keep moving forward.”
