From Runway to Resort: How Jeanne Daniel Turned Global Inspiration into Bella Tu
Jeanne Daniel’s journey from luxury retail executive to founder of the resort wear brand Bella Tu is a testament to how travel, artistry, and a passion for timeless design can converge into a meaningful second act.
Raised in Winchester, Massachusetts, and educated at Skidmore College and the University of Vermont, Daniel built a formidable career in the fashion and luxury goods industry. She held executive roles at Tiffany & Co., Vera Wang, and Emporio Armani, where she honed her expertise in product development, branding, and understanding the lifestyle needs of modern women. Despite her success, Daniel yearned for a more personal and creative venture.
In 2006, a trip to India with her husband, David, proved transformative. Daniel was captivated by the vibrant textiles, intricate embroidery, and the elegance of traditional garments like kurtis and saris. She was particularly inspired by the way Indian women, regardless of age or body type, wore these garments with grace and confidence. This experience sparked the idea of creating a fashion line that blended Indian craftsmanship with Western sensibilities. By 2009, Bella Tu—Italian for “beautiful you”—was born.
Bella Tu specializes in tunics, dresses, caftans, and jackets that marry traditional Indian techniques—such as hand embroidery, beading, and block printing—with contemporary silhouettes suited for resort and everyday wear. Daniel collaborates closely with Mumbai-based artisans, including designer Gopi Vaid and her business partner Arnaz Soonawala, to bring her visions to life. Their partnership ensures that each piece reflects both authenticity and modern appeal.
Bella Tu’s designs have found a loyal following among women who appreciate effortless elegance and quality craftsmanship. The brand’s pieces are versatile, flattering, and often eliminate the need for additional accessories, making them ideal for travel and busy lifestyles. Retailing in boutiques across the U.S., including Palm Beach’s C. Orrico and Pomponner Ltd., as well as online, Bella Tu has established itself as a go-to for chic, resort-inspired fashion.
Now based in New Canaan, Connecticut, Daniel continues to lead Bella Tu with the same passion that ignited its inception. Her story exemplifies how embracing new experiences and cultures can lead to fulfilling and impactful ventures, even after a successful corporate career.
