Finding Purpose: Michelle Robertson’s Journey from PR to Life Coaching

She spent 30 years in public relations working for digital media clients but when Michelle Robertson had her son, she left. “I went back for about a month but realized I wanted the flexibility to be at home with my son so I ended up starting my own firm instead.” She had loyal clients who followed her, and she found entrepreneurship fit her lifestyle.

With her children and a business to run, Michelle was very intentional about compartmentalizing her work life from her life as a mom. She wanted to be at every doctor’s appointment and every school function. This worked for a while until her father got sick with terminal cancer. “I knew time with him was time I’d never get back.” Her business partner took over her agency and she never went back.

Now what? Michelle was at an inflection point in her life. All the attention she had put on her business was focused on her children. “I was looking for something for myself. I didn’t have that thing that gave me the fulfillment that I had gotten from my work. In my soul, I felt I could help other people in some way.”

She decided to enroll in an extensive training program to pursue her coaching certification. With classes offered online it was something she could do at her own pace. “I immediately felt like this was my path, my calling. I did what I now tell my clients to do. Get really quiet and listen to your wise inner voice.” Michelle says that is when your soul speaks to you.

Some of her favorite work is with parents who she coached individually and in groups. In face she will be leading a series of talks entitled “Parenting with Intention” at the Darien Library and Darien Depot. : https://www.michellerobertsoncoaching.com/parenting-with-intention

She also works with people in transition, divorce, empty nesting, career transition, retirement, or anyone who is generally feeling stuck or unfulfilled. Michelle councels her clients to ask, “What do I want my life to look like?”

Another of Michelle’s offerings is a Vision Boarding Party, which guides attendees in creating a vision for their lives. As a life coach, her job is to guide people to find their path and to build self-awareness of how they are living their lives. “Coaching is about the present and the future. Getting unstuck and moving forward.”
