Featured VentureMom – Susan Shaw Founder of Susan Shaw Jewelry
Susan Shaw has been designing and selling handmade jewelry in San Antonio, Texas since 1979. The business is celebrating 45 years! Now that’s longevity! Susan’s jewelry is inspired by her Southern roots, world travel, and her favorite medium, pen and ink. Susan loved to paint the missions and San Antonia historic buildings. And then she turned to jewelry.
Her first piece which she made to fill her creative need , was a homemade chile pepper necklace that received compliments and wholesale inquiries. That began her entrepreneurial journey.
Her early designs were influenced by Southwestern fashion, and her most popular pieces in the mid-1980s were button covers. Susan’s designs are inspired by pre-Euro and early American currencies, as well as her Southern surroundings and world travels. Her jewelry collection is a love letter to her heritage, like her quad -Fleur-de-Lis which was designed by a family member.
Many of Susan’s pieces feature bees, crosses, animals and of course her specialty – coins. Susan’s jewelry is made in San Antonio using triple plated 24K gold or sterling silver. The jewelry is crafted from high quality materials and is triple plated in 24K gold, ensuring durability and beauty.
Susan Shaw jewelry was exclusively only sold wholesale for 35 years, selling to boutiques and luxury gift shops throughout the United States. In 2018, the company launched an e-commerce site so customers could shop their entire catalog. This makes her beautiful pieces more accessible. Lucky us!
