Charlotte Sabbagh – Artist

The vistas she saw in her native country of Denmark inspired her to paint. Charlotte Sabbagh had always been creative and loved design. Working as a project manager on the interiors of the W Hotel in Honolulu, Charlotte says , “I saw the way art can complete the look of a space.”

Wanting to get classically trained, Charlotte went to school and received her degree in fine arts from Parsons in New York. With twin boys and a daughter, she took her classes while they were younger. ” I began to paint and create pieces for my own home.” Then she has a moment that changed everything – she put her house on the market. The real estate brokers who came in to preview the house, loved her art and wanted to buy it. Her hobby turned into a business and she thought, “Why not?” With sales to brokers and their friends, her talent spread by word of mouth.

And then when she had a designer come in to help her with design choices for her new home, she got the same reaction. “She asked to feature my work in the store front of her showroom.” Now Charlotte was on her way in a big way. “I got several commissions from that exposure and from other designers.” Charlotte even placed her work in local art shows.

What makes her work popular with clients? “When I’m commissioned to do a piece, I meet the client in their home and get to know them. I work to create something that resonates, not only with their style of living, but more importantly with their personality, while at the same time using my esthetic.”

Working mostly on larger canvases in oil and mixed media, her work is described as soothing and ethereal. Charlotte says she keeps her finger on the pulse of current design trends, whether it’s color or texture and works to incorporate those trends into her art. Her Scandinavian background brings a modern element to her style.

She has garnered several corporate clients as well and been commissioned to create series of works for offices, lobbies and hallways of buildings. “This is becoming a big part of my business,” she says.

Charlotte always knew she had a creative side, but when she expressed it through her soothing landscapes, she was able to bring it to life. “I love when people appreciate my work. It makes me happy to share my vision with others.”
