For Liz Findlay, starting a business wasn’t about following fashion trends. It was about creating clothing that reflected the active life she and her husband, Dave, loved to live—and building a business they could truly call their own.
Long before Albion Fit, Liz grew up watching her parents build a successful garment manufacturing business in Guatemala. Their attitude toward challenges was simple: “Don’t worry kids! It’ll be an adventure!” That optimism would later shape her own entrepreneurial journey.
Liz and Dave eventually entered the apparel industry, manufacturing clothing for other companies. But as production shifted overseas, business declined. They invested their savings trying to keep the company alive, only to realize they would never control their future while making products for someone else’s brand.
Then came the turning point.
After thieves stole every sewing machine from their warehouse, Dave suggested they stop rebuilding the old business and start something new. Together they decided to create their own brand.
In 2012, they launched Albion Fit, named after Albion Basin in Utah’s Little Cottonwood Canyon—the place where their friendship blossomed, Dave proposed, and they celebrated their wedding reception. Their love of the outdoors continues to inspire the company’s colorful prints and adventurous spirit.
Like every entrepreneur, Liz quickly learned that running a business meant wearing many hats. She and Dave handled everything from product design and sourcing to customer service, marketing, and shipping.
One of Albion Fit’s biggest successes came from solving a problem Liz understood firsthand. As a young mother, she wanted swimwear that was flattering, functional, and comfortable enough to keep up with an active day. Women responded enthusiastically, and Albion Fit soon expanded into activewear, dresses, travel clothing, and everyday apparel.
The couple also embraced social media early, building authentic relationships with customers instead of relying on traditional advertising. Their willingness to do things differently became part of the company’s culture. As Dave says, “If they zigged, we zagged.”
Growing the company wasn’t always easy, but Liz never forgot another lesson from her childhood. Painted on the wall of her parents’ factory were the words “Cada día mejor”—every day a little better. That philosophy still guides the business today.
More than a decade later, Albion Fit has grown into a nationally recognized, family-owned brand, but its mission remains unchanged: helping women feel confident, comfortable, and ready for life’s adventures.
What Entrepreneurs Can Learn from Liz’s Journey
Liz’s story is a reminder that setbacks often create the greatest opportunities. By solving a problem she personally understood, listening to customers, and staying true to her vision, she and Dave transformed a struggling manufacturing business into a thriving lifestyle brand.
Sometimes success begins when you stop building someone else’s dream and have the courage to build your own.
