Espalier Natural Botanics was established in Westport, Connecticut, by Kimberly Hovstadius, a certified natural skincare formulator and aromatherapist whose journey into entrepreneurship was deeply personal.
Founded in 2016, Espalier was years in the making. Long before the brand officially launched, its products were shaped by Kimberly’s passion for organic gardening, clean living, and a belief that what we put on our bodies matters just as much as what we put in them.
About 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. Kimberly became one of them after discovering a breast lump. Following her diagnosis, she elected to have a bilateral mastectomy and hormonal therapy and is now in remission—thanks to early detection. Genetic testing revealed no predisposition to cancer; instead, environmental factors were identified as the cause, reinforcing her commitment to eliminating harmful ingredients from skincare.
Today, Kimberly donates a percentage of Espalier profits to early detection and screening, and her passion for supporting other women inspired the Bare Collection, dedicated to warriors currently in treatment.
