Featured VentureMom – Julia Amory

Sometimes the best business ideas begin with a problem you simply can’t solve yourself.

For Julia Amory, that moment came while planning her wedding in Southampton. Julia envisioned beautiful custom-printed table linens that felt timeless, elegant, and unique — but everything she found was either prohibitively expensive or didn’t reflect the aesthetic she had in mind.

Rather than compromise, she decided to create her own.

Julia sourced artisans in India and designed custom block-print tablecloths and napkins herself. The result was exactly what she had imagined: sophisticated, colorful linens with an effortless, collected feel. Friends and guests immediately wanted to know where they could buy them.

At the time, Julia was working in finance on Wall Street, specializing in biotech IPOs. But the overwhelming response to her wedding designs planted the seed for something bigger.

In 2017, she launched Julia Amory — originally known as India Amory — with a small collection of block-print linens sold through an e-commerce website. Combining her natural eye for design with the business discipline she developed during six years in Financial Services, Julia quickly discovered there was a significant gap in the market for beautifully designed, high-quality pieces at a more approachable price point.

What started with table linens soon evolved into a full lifestyle brand.

Today, Julia Amory has expanded into women’s apparel, home pieces, and accessories known for their vibrant prints, timeless silhouettes, and relaxed sophistication. Signature pieces like the brand’s Husband Shirts and caftans have become favorites among women seeking polished yet effortless style.

After building a devoted online following, Julia opened her first flagship retail store in Palm Beach in 2022. The brand has since continued to grow with locations in Charleston and Southampton.

Entrepreneurship and design run deep in Julia’s family. Her great-aunt was legendary designer Lilly Pulitzer, and lifestyle author Alexandra Stoddard is her stepgrandmother. But Julia has built a brand entirely her own — one rooted in color, craftsmanship, and the idea that beautiful everyday pieces can elevate how we live.

Her story is a reminder that sometimes frustration is actually opportunity in disguise. One unmet need at her own wedding ultimately became the launchpad for a thriving lifestyle business — and a completely new chapter of life.
